CHINESE STUDENTS LEARN HOW TO BEAD!
I wanted to tell you about a great experience that I had this month . . .  I was asked to teach a beginning beading class to a group of 32 Chinese students who were staying here for 3 weeks with families in Anacortes. 

I wasn't sure how it would work, especially with such a large group, but it actually turned out to be SO MUCH FUN!  Lori and I headed to the 1st Christian Church on July 13.  (Howard "held down the fort" for us while we were gone!)  The students had been having classes there, so they decided to have the beading class there, too! 

It worked out great!   They provided me with a white board,  and between my "hieroglyphics," the students' GREAT English abilities (compared to my lousy two-word Chinese vocabulary), and Lori's assistance, they all learned how to make a beautiful necklace and a bracelet!!  Even the boys made bracelets . . . mostly for their mothers, I think!   But they told me that they much preferred learning how to bead than visiting the WATER TREATMENT PLANT!

I would like to say a special thank you to Cheryl Gilman  who gathered up lots of small pieces of driftwood on the beach and drilled holes in them.  Many of the students made them into necklaces using a piece of leather cord.  Now they have taken a "little piece of Anacortes" back to China with them!
